An award-winning painter and Connecticut native, Cynthia K  Mullins approaches both the world and her art with a deeply inquisitive aesthetic. While she paints a broad range of subjects, including landscapes, her recent work focuses on bridging abstraction and realism through the historical subject of flora. These floral paintings explore intimate space and composition, graceful or sharper line, rich texture, color, and mood. Though she primarily works in oil, Mullins frequently utilizes watercolor or acrylic under-paintings to build dimensional interest.

She also uses smooth surfaces such as aluminum, wood panel, stainless steel, paper and linen that allow her to create all textures with the paint.  She uses a combination of transparent and pastel colors; the transparent colors allow the light to shine through the paint back to the eye creating a more luminous paintings.

​Artistic Lineage

Mullins is the great-great granddaughter of painter Aaron Draper Shattuck and the great-great grandniece of Samuel Colman, directly connecting her to the historic Hudson River School lineage, though her modern style pivots into contemporary expression.
